Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the different student statuses? How do I know which student status I qualify for?

There are four different student statuses: International Students, Overseas Chinese Students, Hong Kong and Macao Students, and Mainland Chinese Students. Find out which student status you are eligible to apply as with the Overseas Degree Student Status Check Tool. If you are still unsure, please reach out at intadmission@ntu.edu.tw.

  • Why does student status matter? What if I qualify for two different statuses?

Regulations, application processes, tuition fees, scholarships, and available programs differ depending on your student status, so it is very important to check before starting your application. If you qualify for two different student statuses, you can apply through both channels provided that you never used either status to study in Taiwan before. For example, if you want to apply as an International Student, you should not have studied in Taiwan as an Overseas Chinese student before. You ultimately enter NTU with just one student status.

  • I am currently enrolled in another university, can I transfer to NTU?

If you are an international student currently enrolled in a university as a Bachelor’s student, please check the International Sophomore Entry page for more information. If you are an Overseas Chinese/Hong Kong & Macau student currently enrolled in a university in Taiwan, you can apply for transfer admissions through the local student channel; if you are currently enrolled in an overseas university, please apply for first-year admission through the Overseas Chinese/Hong Kong & Macau students channel.
